1993 Diamond Back Viper. This is one of the bikes I got on Monday, it came with no crank, or bottoms bracket. I stole them off another bike. It just needs the wheels tuned up but I don’t have a spoke wrench and my bro in law forgot his. Hopefully I’ll be getting it out on the dirt this weekend.
Also while re-greasing the headset bearings I lost one, but in a 1/1000 chance I found it! Also pro tip. Need to clean up an old chain or bearings? Just dunk them in mineral spirits for like 10 minutes.
The other two from the lot I bought on Monday. Both Haro’s the black on is my new street bike, the red on is for sale. Im giving my old GT to my bro in law, it’ll be his first ever BMX bike. He’s 25. The fourth bike that I got isn’t worth fixing. It was the parts bike that the Viper’s new bb, crank, and front sprocket came from.

I’m 45 and riding a Free Agent cruiser while a race with my son. I had that exact same Viper back in the day. Then I got sponsored by a local shop and switched to GT for a season, then Kuwahara, then Robinson. Love me some classic BMX bikes man, that’s super cool...

By Cruiser you mean like a 24” BMX right? I want to get one of those some day.
I’m pretty stoked on how old school this bike is, the skinny steel tubing, big MotoX style handle bars. It feels so different from my street BMX bikes. It’s also the first race bike I’ve had so that’s part of it.
One weird thing about the bike is the brakes are set up back words to me. Rear on the left, front on the right. Is that a BMX thing or just an something the previous owner did? I may switch them, but I didn’t feel like it last night.

Yup, BMX cruiser. I’m a big dude, needed a big bike, lol. The previous owner must have swapped the brakes, I’ve never seen a factory bike set up that way... I never did the “street” or “freestyle” thing, I just wanted to race and jump big jumps. Too uncoordinated to do tricks, just barely coordinated enough to go fast and fly straight, lol...

I often think about finding an 80s Mongoose (with blue accessories, has to be blue) , but I think I’d look ridiculous on it, and I don’t want to keep it as a trophy crammed into my small residence.

Just out of curiosity, what do you want for the red Haro? Also, those look like old school Shimano DX pedals, very coveted.
And right is always back brake, not sure why someone would change that.

You could always go with this much cheaper, more practical option. A 24” cruiser with some old school flare.
Altho I think Schwinn’s take on it looks cooler.
If you want o spend big theres the GT Big ripper.

I like those blue tires a lot. I wanted those when I was a kid in the 80s, but never had them. I’d want a chrome-moly frame too, of course. Looks like it comes with pegs too.
I see vintage BMX are real collectibles now.

Yeah 80s Bmx stuff goes for bonkers money, just to hang on some ones wall. Or worse.
That’s why I want to ride this old Diamondback. I’d rather break something using it than “save” it by putting it on display.

That’s probably what I would end up doing - not that I am looking forward to riding on public streets in my town anyway, Russian roulette. I don’t think I have ridden a bike in 5 years.
I think it is awesome that you are using the old bikes though, as intended. These aren’t Picassos.
